A 49-year-old man has appeared at the District Court in Limerick in connection with a murder in the city four years ago.

Anthony Kelly of Cragg House, Kilrush in Co Clare, was charged with the murder of Brian Fitzgerald at Brookhaven Walk, Corbally, on 29 November 2002.

The court was told when he was charged last night he made no reply.

An attempt was made in court today to apply for bail. However, Judge Tom O'Donnell said the question of bail on a murder charge is a matter for the High Court.

Mr Kelly was remanded in custody to appear at the District Court again this day next week.
