Gardaí in Co Mayo are investigating an incident in which a 47-year-old woman was critically injured in Charlestown at 1.30am.
The woman, a member of the travelling community, was apparently struck by a camper van and was taken to Mayo General Hospital.
Her condition is described as critical but stable.
The woman suffered head and abdominal injuries.
Gardaí preserved the scene on the Ballymote Road out of Charlestown and carried out a technical examination.
They say there may have been a number of other incidents leading up to the point where the woman was injured and their investigations are continuing.
