A confrontation between protesters and gardaí on the road leading to the gas terminal site in north Co Mayo continued this morning.

About 100 demonstrators began blocking the roadway leading to the main entrance at 8am.

There has been a series of incidents during which gardaí succeeded in getting a convoy of about 15 vehicles onto the site.

They later cleared the road to allow five construction trucks to get through.

Workers have been escorted onto the site of the planned terminal by a large force of gardaí since Tuesday of last week.
