It is reported that Thailand's interim civilian prime minister will have a free hand in running the government after a post-coup constitution comes into force at the beginning of next month.

Coup leader General Sonthi Boonyaratglin has made assurances that the army will not control the government.

However, he declined to name the successor to ousted prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra.
