A former Fianna Fáil councillor has denied accepting a bribe from former lobbyist Frank Dunlop to support the rezoning of the Cargobridge lands near Dublin Airport.

But Sean Gilbride admitted at the Mahon Tribunal that he had changed his evidence about contacts he had with Mr Dunlop.

Mr Gilbride previously testified that Mr Dunlop had lobbied him about the rezoning but said, now that he had time to think about it, he was satisfied this was wrong.

He also has no recollection of being canvassed by Michael McGuinness - the main businessman behind the Cargobridge consortium.

Another former Fianna Fáil councillor has said Aer Rianta was childish and jealous in its opposition to the development.

Colm McGrath told the tribunal that the rezoning received rare cross-party support in 1993 partly because councillors felt Aer Rianta exaggerated safety concerns.

Mr McGrath pointed out that Aer Rianta had built larger buildings for Team Aer Lingus closer to the airport but still claimed that the air freight warehouses would pose a safety risk.

He said Aer Rianta seemed to have been annoyed with itself for missing the opportunity to buy the lands for the exact same purpose.

Both Mr McGrath and Mr Gilbride denied knowing that Ciaran Haughey of Celtic Helicopters was involved in the Cargobridge consortium.
