One of the two children injured in a car fire in Limerick over the weekend has been moved out of intensive care.

It is understood Millie Murray, 6, has been transferred to the burns unit at Our Lady's Hospital for Sick Children.

Her younger brother Gavin remains in a critical condition.

The children were trapped in a car that was set on fire outside a house in the Moyross area of the city on Sunday. They received severe burns as their mother and neighbours tried to pull them from the burning vehicle.

Gardaí investigating the incident are continuing to question two 17-year-olds.

The two teenagers were arrested at 8.30pm last night after they arrived at Mayorstone Garda Station voluntarily.

The family believes the car was set on fire deliberately after it was doused with petrol, but do not know why they were targeted.
