The fallout over last year's publication of cartoons depicting the prophet Mohammad in a Danish newspaper has resulted in a marked decline in Danish exports to Muslim countries.

Furious protests followed the appearance of the controversial cartoons and consumers in Muslim countries were urged to show their anger by boycotting Danish goods.

Denmark's National Statistics Institute says that from February to June, Danish exports to the Middle East halved.

Exports to Saudi Arabia fell by 40%. There was a similar decline in exports to Iran, Libya, Sudan and Yemen.
