Teenager dies in Malin Head cliff tragedy

An 18-year-old man has died after falling from a cliff in Malin Head on the Inishowen Peninsula in Co Donegal.

A 17-year-old girl, thought to be a British national, was injured in the accident, which happened early today.

It is believed the two teenagers were trying to get to a beach party at Malin Head when they slipped on steps leading down the cliff at around 1am.

It is understood the teenage man was killed instantly when he struck more steps below.

It is thought he came from the Inishowen Peninsula.

His body was taken to Letterkenny General Hospital and the State Pathologist is to conduct a post mortem examination later.

The teenage girl suffered head injuries and underwent emergency surgery at Altnagelvin Hospital in Derry.

She was on holiday from England and is understood to have close connections with the Malin area.
