Gardaí say they are following a number of lines of inquiry following the murder of a man in Dublin's south inner city.
The body of 80-year-old Vincent Plunkett was found at a sheltered accommodation complex on Cork Street yesterday afternoon.
Gardaí were called to his ground floor flat in Robinson Court, Cork Street, just after midday yesterday and found the pensioner lying on the floor. There was no sign of a break-in.
Mr Plunkett, who was a native of Athlone, had sustained stab wounds to the body and throat.
The retired traffic warden was convicted in 1998 of stalking and terrorising the parents of a four-year-old child.
Superintendent Tadey Muldoon, from Kevin Street Garda Station, says a link between this conviction and Mr Plunkett's death is being investigated.
Gardaí are appealing for anyone who knew the victim, or saw anyone come from or go to the apartment in the last 48 hours, to contact them at Kevin Street Station on 01-6669400.
