Gardaí investigate baby body find in Limerick

Gardaí in Limerick are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of a baby whose body was discovered three weeks ago in a house outside Rathkeale.
The dead baby girl was discovered in the attic of a house in a rural area known as Blossom Hill, outside the town.
The discovery was made on 5 July by the owner of a rented house.
Gardaí have confirmed that the body was badly decomposed. They believe it could have been there for several months.
A post mortem examination has been carried out on the body, and gardaí say they are satisfied she did not die violently.
And while they are treating the matter as compassionately as possible, they say the circumstances leading up to the birth and its concealment are being investigated.
As part of that they have spoken to the baby's mother, a woman in her 20s who also has two other young children.
She has since been rehoused by the local authority.
Gardaí are also liaising with the Health Service Executive in the region to ensure that all aspects of the mother's care and welfare are being met. Their inquiries on the matter are continuing.
