The US space shuttle, Discovery, has landed safely at the Kennedy Space Center in Florida.

The mission began 13 days ago after two previous launch attempts were postponed due to poor weather.

The landing at 2.14pm Irish time brought a successful end to NASA's second shuttle mission since the Columbia disaster in 2003.

Discovery's sister ship broke apart just 16 minutes from landing on 1 February 2003, killing all seven astronauts on board.
