A former Monarch Properties executive has described as 'absolute rubbish' a claim by PR consultant Bill O'Herlihy that he told him £100,000 had been paid in bribes to councillors.

Richard Lynn denied at the Mahon Tribunal that such a conversation took place during an attempt to get greater housing density on lands at Cherrywood, south Dublin in 1992.

Mr Lynn also denied a claim by former lobbyist Frank Dunlop that he had complained councillors were 'not getting their act together' despite 'the amount of money being spent'.

Senior Counsel Patricia Dillon asked Mr Lynn if he could explain why two different PR consultants would attribute conversations to him about money being paid to councillors.

Mr Lynn replied: 'I can't assist the tribunal in that.'
