The world's largest computer chip manufacturer, Intel, has said a voluntary redundancy scheme will be made available to management grade employees at its Irish operations.
Yesterday, the company said it would lay off 1,000 managers, or about 1% of its global workforce.
However, only a small number of the 5,000 people employed in Ireland are likely to be affected.
The voluntary package being offered by the company is the equivalent of six weeks' pay per year of service plus statutory redundancy.
The company says it is seeking to streamline its business amid tough competition in the sector.
