The IRA has issued a statement claiming that Belfast woman Jean McConville was an informer.
This contradicts the findings of an invesigation carried out by the police ombudsman, Nuala O'Loan
Ms O'Loan yesterday said she was satisfied that Mrs Mc Conville, who was murdered by the IRA in 1972, had not been providing information to the security forces.
Fine Gael leader Enda Kenny said there were no circumstances in a civilised society that could justify the murder.
He said it would be far more fitting for the IRA to provide information that would bring other murders and disappearances they knew about to a Christian completion than to make statements like the one they made today.
