Two Irish MEPs have clashed in the European Parliament over the alleged use of Irish airports in so-called extraordinary renditions.

Labour MEP Proinsias de Rossa told the parliament that its committee investigating extraordinary renditions should cross-examine the Irish Government.

He said that 50 CIA flights had landed at Irish airports.

The Dublin MEP said that the plane that was involved in the abduction from Italy to Egypt of Abu Omar also landed in Ireland.

But Fianna Fáil MEP Sean O Neachtain told the parliament that he totally refuted the allegations.

He said that he was pleased that the committee's report on extraordinary rendition made no findings against the Irish Government.
