Gardaí have arrested a third man in Limerick in connection with yesterday's seizure of heroin and cocaine thought to be worth more than €1m.
Two men in their 30s were arrested earlier and are being questioned at Henry Street and Roxboro garda stations.
The arrests followed a number of searches in the south of the city and the city centre which targeted the activities of criminal gangs as part of the nationwide Operation Anvil.
Last night they seized five handguns, two machine pistols, six stunguns and a quantity of ammunition following searches on two houses.
Heroin estimated to be worth over €750,000 and cocaine with an estimated street value of €300,000 was also seized along with a cocaine press and other drug production paraphernalia. €15,000 in cash was also seized.
Gardaí said it was a significant development and comes after several months' surveillance work aimed at curbing the activities of gangs involved in criminal and drugs activities.
