A jury at an inquest into the death of a man who died after falling from a rooftop having eaten magic mushrooms has recorded a verdict of death by misadventure.

Colm Hodkinson, who was 33 at the time, fell from the roof balcony of his apartment at The Anchorage, situated beside Dún Laoghaire harbour.

Giving the verdict, County Coroner Dr Kieran Geraghty said he wanted to take the opportunity to issue a warning to young people considering experimenting with drugs.

He said he hoped that at least one person will hear his warning and hesitate before using them.

The jury of four women and three men also recommended that a study be undertaken to assess the potential damage of mind-altering products.

Dr Geraghty said this recommendation would be passed on to the relevant minister.
