Gardaí have released the names of the victims of two weekend road accidents.

Gardaí have released the names of the victims of two weekend road accidents.

The man killed in a road traffic accident in Co Westmeath on Saturday has been named as James Maher.

Mr Maher, 25, from St Ann's, Athlone, died when his car crashed through a ditch and ended up in a field.

The fatal accident happened at Strattonstown, Ballina, Co Westmeath.

The deceased was alone in the car at the time and there was no other vehicle involved in the crash.

And the man who was killed in yesterday's fatal traffic collision in Carrick-on-Shannon has been named as 62-year-old Rod Finch of Doocastle, Sligo.
