Two men have died in seperate road accidents.

Gardaí in Gort, Co Galway, have confirmed that a man in his 70s has been killed in a three-car accident that happened south of the town this afternoon.

The accident occurred at a T-junction at Lough Cutra, where the Tulla Road joins the N18.

A female passenger in the deceased man's car was injured and has been taken to University College Hospital Galway.

However, she is not thought to be seriously injured.

Meanwhile, gardaí at Mullingar are investigating a fatal crash that occurred this morning at Strattonstown, Ballina, Co Westmeath.

A man, believed to be in his 20s, was killed when his car crashed through a ditch and ended up in a field at 8.40am.

He was on his own in the car at the time and there was no other vehicle involved in the crash.
