Ireland's most popular Catholic newspaper has reported that the State's largest crisis pregnancy counselling service, Cura, is to lose €600,000 in Government funding for refusing to hand out the Crisis Pregnancy Agency's 'Positive Options' leaflet.

Ireland's most popular Catholic newspaper has reported that the State's largest crisis pregnancy counselling service, Cura, is to lose €600,000 in Government funding for refusing to hand out the Crisis Pregnancy Agency's 'Positive Options' leaflet.

The Irish Catholic reports that Cura, which is an agency of the Irish Bishops' Conference, stopped handing out the Government agency's leaflet a year ago after concerns that it contained contact details for groups who may refer a woman for an abortion in Britain.

Cura's refusal to distribute the leaflet is a breach of an agreement with the CPA, which disburses the State funding.

Both sides say negotiations on the funding are continuing.
