Ervine to join UUP assembly group

watch

The Ulster Unionist party has announced that the leader of the Progressive Unionist Party, David Ervine, is to join with the UUP assembly group when the Northern parties gather at Stormont on Monday.

Were power-sharing government to be restored in the North, Mr Ervine's decision to join the group would deny Sinn Fein one of its executive cabinet seats.

It has been stressed that Mr Ervine is not leaving the PUP but only joining the Ulster Unionist voting bloc.
