Thousands protest in US for immigrants

listen

Hundreds of thousands of people took part in protests across the United States yesterday as part of a day of action calling for rights for immigrant workers.

The largest demonstrations were in Los Angeles, Chicago, Miami and New York.

The organisers had called on immigrants to stay away from work and school and to avoid spending money, in order to prove they were vital to the American economy.
