Iran has said it is willing to allow the resumption of snap inspections of its nuclear facilities by United Nations inspectors if the controversy over its nuclear programme is referred back to the UN's nuclear watchdog.
Iran stopped the inspections after the International Atomic Energy Agency decided to report Iran to the UN Security Council - a move that could lead to the imposition of sanctions.
The IAEA said yesterday that Iran had failed to meet a deadline to suspend its uranium enrichment programme. Tehran said the programme would continue.
The Iranian ambassador to the UN, Javad Zarif, said Iran would not respond to pressure from the international community. However he also said Iran was willing to find a constructive solution.
Meanwhile, the US President, George W Bush, has said the world is united and concerned about what he termed Iran's nuclear weapons ambitions.
And the US ambassador to the UN, John Bolton, said he thought that action was needed to stop Iran acquiring nuclear weapons.
