The High Court has begun hearing the case of President Mary McAleese's protocol officer, who has gone to court to prevent a disciplinary investigation into her conduct proceeding.

Bridget Conway, from Clane Road in Celbridge Co Kildare, has alleged that resentment over her close working relationship with the President has led to 'bogus' disciplinary proceedings being 'contrived' against her by senior personnel in the office of the President's Secretary.

The claims have been denied by the defendants.
