The former junior minister Ivor Callely, who resigned on Budget Day last December, received almost half of all donations made to TDs, Senators and MEPs last year.

Figures released by the Standards in Public Office Commission show that Deputy Callely received a total of €69,600 in 2005, out of a total of €147,526 donated to TDs, Senators and MEPs.

The donations are nearly all described as cheques for a golf classic, and the 40 donors are all listed as 'individuals'.

By contrast, the Taoiseach Bertie Ahern declared the donation of €18,000 through the provision of a constituency office by Fianna Fáil, the Minister for Defence Willie O'Dea declared donations of €7,750, while donations were also declared by junior ministers Batt O'Keeffe, Sean Power and Brendan Smith.
