The Orange Order is to hold its first ever meeting with the SDLP.

The Orange Order is to hold its first ever meeting with the SDLP.

The Order wrote to the party leader, Mark Durkan, early this week to seek the meeting but no date has yet been finalised.

The SDLP has confirmed it received the letter and it will discuss the issue at a party meeting next Monday.

A spokeswoman said the SDLP's position was 'very clear on parades. We believe there needs to be face to face dialogue at a local level without preconditions, we also believe that everybody needs to work constructively with the Parades Commission.'

The Order is still refusing to meet the Parades Commission, residents groups or Sinn Féin.
