The Minister for Education has announced a series of measures to tackle student behaviour problems in schools.
Mary Hanafin has promised to review the legislation governing school expulsions. She has also promised the creation of special behaviour support teams to work with schools with significant discipline problems.
The minister was speaking after the publication this morning of the report of a departmental taskforce on student behaviour.
The report has called for the amending of legislation to give more rights to the majority of students who are not disruptive.
The report has also recommended the extension of programmes such as Youth Reach, more resources for the National Educational Psychological Service, as well as a stronger role for educational welfare officers.
