Policewoman attacked in Portadown

The Northern Secretary, Peter Hain, has called for calm following a riot in Co Armagh this morning in which a policewoman was kicked and punched by a gang of men.

Six police officers were injured during the rioting in Portadown.

Two police vehicles and a number of cars were damaged.

Two men were arrested and another has been charged with assault and disorderly behaviour.

Mr Hain said he was  not sure if the violence was related to the riots in Dublin.
