U2 honoured by Amnesty at Chile ceremony

Rock band U2 have been named Amnesty International's Ambassadors of Conscience at a ceremony in Chile.

Rock band U2 have been named Amnesty International's Ambassadors of Conscience at a ceremony in Chile.

The band were given the honour at a ceremony in the Chilean capital, Santiago.

The award was inspired by a poem written by Nobel Laureate Seamus Heaney.

Previous winners include former President and UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, Mary Robinson.

U2 were also praised for their efforts to promote the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
