A court in Austria has sentenced a British historian to three years in prison after he pleaded guilty to charges of denying the Holocaust.

A court in Austria has sentenced a British historian to three years in prison after he pleaded guilty to charges of denying the Holocaust.

David Irving, who is 67, accepted he was mistaken to dispute the existence of the Nazi regime's gas chambers at the Auschwitz concentration camp in an interview in 1989.

Holocaust denial is a criminal offence in Austria which carries a maximum sentence of 10 years in jail.
