The Taoiseach has confirmed that he will be meeting the Fianna Fáil Deputy, Seán Haughey, to discuss the recent junior ministerial reshuffle.
Bertie Ahern said he had nothing more to add on the matter, saying the decision to appoint Mary Wallace as Minister of State at the Department of Agriculture was taken on Tuesday.
It was widely thought that Mr Haughey would get the promotion.
When asked what he would be saying to Mr Haughey, the Taoiseach refused to be drawn. He said he did not know when the meeting would take place.
Mr Ahern was speaking as he left an event organised by the Institute of Management Consultants in Dublin this morning.
Earlier, the Government Chief Whip, Tom Kitt, said the appointment of a Minister of State to succeed Ivor Callelly was a very tight call.
Yesterday, Mr Haughey said he was considering his political future after being passed over for promotion.
On RTÉ Radio's Morning Ireland this morning, Mr Kitt said that in trying to interpret the Taoiseach, he believed Mr Haughey would be up for consideration in the very near future.
He said he hoped Mr Haughey would remain with Fianna Fáil as he was very much part of the party.
Mr Kitt said there were 50 backbenchers from which the Taoiseach could have made the choice and that yesterday saw the human side of politics played out in a very public way.
