Racial discrimination in housing market probed

The Chief Executive of the Equality Authority, Niall Crowley, has expressed concern that some landlords are not letting their properties to people because of their race.

The Chief Executive of the Equality Authority, Niall Crowley, has expressed concern that some landlords are not letting their properties to people because of their race.

Mr Crowley was speaking today at the launch of the Equality Authority's three-year strategic plan.

The body plans to promote equality in the health and education systems as well as the accommodation sector.

Mr Crowley said it had been made aware of cases where landlords in the private rented sector were discriminating against people on the grounds of race and he said the authority would be looking at this.
