The former Bishop of Galway, Dr Eamon Casey, is believed to be preparing to return to Ireland later tonight or tomorrow.

Bishop Casey left Galway 14 years ago, after acknowledging he had had a relationship with an American divorcee and was the father of her son.

He has been working as a curate in a parish in Sussex in southern England for six years.

Today, he was preparing to leave the priest's house where he has been living.

He declined to divulge details of his homecoming but said he was glad to be returning to Ireland.
