A man died tonight following what is believed to have been a fight between two feuding families in west Belfast.

A man died tonight following what is believed to have been a fight between two feuding families in west Belfast.

The PSNI said a number of men were involved in a brawl on Whitecliff Parade in Ballymurphy at around 4pm.

Three men were taken to hospital, one suffering from a stab wound.

It is understood the victim, who was in his 40s, was stabbed.

He was one of three men taken to hospital following the fight.

The conditions of the other two men are not thought to be life-threatening.

A police spokesman said: 'The PSNI are appealing for support from the west Belfast community to help us gather the vital information we need to find the person responsible for this tragic incident.' 

It is understood there is no suggestion of paramilitary involvement.

Police have launched a murder inquiry and are investigating a motive.
