The Taoiseach has had discussions in the Indian capital, New Delhi, with the head of the Congress Party, Sonia Gandhi, and has delivered a keynote address at the city's Nehru Memorial Library.
In his address, he spoke about the longstanding links between Ireland and India.
Mr Ahern is in Delhi at the head of a trade mission which is in its third day.
He is being accompanied by Government ministers as well as representatives of nearly 100 firms and organisations from both sides of the border.
Ongoing trade links will continue to be the focus for the ministerial team travelling with Mr Ahern, who will host a range of business and education events in the Indian capital.
It has been announced, meanwhile, that the Indian government is to name a road in the capital after the former Taoiseach and President, Eamon de Valera.
