The parents and family of the Co Clare man who was shot dead in New York at the weekend say they cannot understand why he was murdered.

New York police are still investigating the shooting of 42-year-old John Kelly Junior outside his home.

The NYPD told RTÉ News this evening that there are no witnesses so far to the shooting and that no arrests have been made.

Mr Kelly’s family said he had worked hard to pay for treatment for his daughter who has a medical condition.

They said they have full faith in the NYPD investigation to find those responsible for his death, adding that Mr Kelly was a law-abiding citizen who had many friends in the NYPD.
