Two people have died in sub-zero temperatures in France as blizzards and snowstorms continue to sweep across Northern and Central Europe.
Britain has also been put on weather alert after the experiencing the coldest December in a decade.
Motorists in the Republic and Northern Ireland are advised to drive with caution after some snowfalls in parts of the north and northwest caused difficult driving conditions and delays in places.
Affected counties included Donegal, Sligo, Leitrim, Fermanagh, and Tyrone.
Traffic delays were caused near Derrylin, Co Fermanagh, when an oil tanker became stuck on a hill because of snow.
Police said compacted snow made driving conditions difficult on stretches of the A5 between Ballygawley and Omagh in Co Tyrone.
About five centimetres of snowfall were predicted for some areas, turning to rain by evening time.
National routes in Leitrim and Sligo have been gritted.
