The jury in the trial of Wayne O'Donoghue has been shown tapes of two interviews which were recorded during his detention at Midleton Garda Station in Co Cork on 17 January last.

During one of the interviews, a detective reads the contents of a cautioned statement which Mr O'Donoghue made on 16 January.

In it, he admits killing his 11-year-old neighbour Robert Holohan before later dumping his body.

The defendant's parents, his girlfriend Rebecca Dennehy and Robert Holohan's parents, Mark and Majella, were in court to hear Mr O'Donoghue say on the tape that that account of how he killed Robert was correct.

Mr O'Donoghue admits killing Robert Holohan, but denies murder.

The trial resumes in the morning.
