The family of nine-year-old Cavan girl, Frances Sheridan, who died as a result of post operative complications, has criticised the verdict returned by a jury at the inquest into her death.
Her parents said they felt the verdict of death by natural causes was not compatible with the evidence.
Several days after Frances had her appendix removed at Cavan General, she had returned to the hospital complaining of stomach pains.
She had a letter from her GP suggesting her bowel may have become trapped as the body healed after the appendix operation.
That was addressed to the surgical team. They did not get it and instead the junior doctors who examined her said it was probably a tummy bug and they sent her home.
Within hours she woke her parents saying she could not see. She collapsed and died shortly afterwards.
Today, her family also expressed dismay that after hearing the evidence, they now believe the life of their daughter could have been saved in the hospital.
