Football icon George Best remains in a critical but stable condition in a London hospital after his doctor said he had a 'disturbed night'.
The former Manchester United and Northern Ireland striker has been put back on a ventilator at the intensive care ward of the Cromwell Hospital in west London.
But Professor Roger Williams said Best remained alert and is breathing partly on his own. Professor Williams oversaw Best's liver transplant in 2002 following years of alcohol abuse.
Best, 59, was admitted to hospital on 1 October. His condition deteriorated rapidly at the end of October when he developed a kidney infection.
He contracted a lung infection last Friday and has been on a ventilator for most of the time since.
