LUAS upgrade to begin in 2007

The Minister for Transport, Martin Cullen, has announced details for the upgrading of the Tallaght LUAS line under Transport 21.

It is expected that the upgrade will increase passenger capacity on the line by 40%.

At the moment up to 40,000 passengers per day are travelling on the line.

The increased capacity will be achieved by increasing the length of the trams on the line.

The upgrade will start in 2007 and be completed by 2008.

There should be no disruption to services.
