Asda has said it will create 800 jobs in Northern Ireland as part of its plan to hire 3,000 new staff across the UK and Northern Ireland.

The supermarket group Asda has announced that it will create 800 jobs in Northern Ireland as part of its plan to hire 3,000 new staff across the UK and Northern Ireland.

The company said the expansion follows strong trading at the first six of the 12 stores in Northern Ireland it acquired from Morrison earlier this year.

Asda is to open four more stores in Northern Ireland in the next 10 days.

The company is also investing £10m in recruiting an extra 2,000 staff in England, Wales and Scotland, an average of seven new staff in each of Asda's 289 UK stores.

Asda is also opening five new stores in England and Wales in the next 10 days, including its largest ever store in Milton Keynes.

The announcements come as Asda's parent company, Wal-Mart, reported its third quarter results.
