FG calls for bio-fuel development

Fine Gael has called for the immediate establishment of a Cabinet sub-committee to promote the development and use of bio-fuels and renewable energy sources.

The call was made by the party's Agriculture Spokesperson, Denis Naughten, who was speaking following a discussion on the issue at the party's National Conference at the weekend.

Deputy Naughten accused the Government of damaging the development of the bio-fuel industry.

He further accused the Government of encouraging Ireland's huge dependence on the importation of oil, leaving the country with a hefty financial bill to meet its commitments under the Kyoto agreement.
