The inquest into the death of Joseph Rafferty who was shot dead outside his home in Clonsilla last April has been adjourned for a year.
Mr Rafferty, who was 29 years old, was shot as he came out of his home in Ongar, Clonsilla in the early hours of 12 April.
Detective Inspector Thomas O'Loughlin applied for an adjournment at the Dublin County Coroners' Court.
He told the court there was an ongoing criminal investigation in the matter which may take considerable time.
Before the proceedings were adjourned, the coroner, Dr Kieran Geraghty, said Mr Rafferty had been killed by a single gun shot wound to the chest.
Members of Mr Rafferty's family were not present at the inquest.
They claim Mr Rafferty was shot by a member of the Provisional IRA.
