The Equality Authority has said the largest number of complaints about the workplace so far this year, about 40%, were race related.

The main complaints from members of ethnic minorities relate to unequal pay, excessive working hours, lack of access to statutory leave entitlements and discriminatory dismissal and harassment.

Speaking at the launch of Anti-Racism in the Workplace Week, the Minister for Justice Michael McDowell said how we deal with these issues today will determine whether or not there are scenes in Ireland in the future like those currently in Paris.
