The woman who was injured in the car crash in which the former TD Liam Lawlor was killed in Moscow last month has broken her silence on the accident.

She said she was shocked and disgusted by reports that had appeared in Irish newspapers after the accident.

Julia Kushnir, a 29-year-old Ukrainian national living in Prague for the last 14 years, made the comment in a statement issued through a solicitor's office in Galway.

Ms Kushnir said she had been visiting Moscow as a translator and an intermediator to both Mr Lawlor and another businessman who was killed in the crash.

She described the newspapers reports as reckless, vengeful and ill corroborated.

Several Sunday newspapers apologised for their inaccurate reports on the circumstances of Mr Lawlor's death.
