The Catholic Bishops' Conference has apologised to anyone who was hurt at the hands of abusers within their church.

The Bishops met in Maynooth today to discuss the Ferns Report and proposals sent to them by the Minister for Children, Brian Lenihan.

They said they would respond positively to his letter and plan to launch their Child Protection programme next month.
