Four worker directors at An Post have strongly rejected allegations by the company's management that staff had deliberately delayed mail deliveries and sabotaged the postal service.
In a statement, the four said the company had been issuing claims of intimidation and sabotage by workers, but said that from their initial investigation, a number of allegations were untrue.
The four worker directors - Gerry Condon, Pat Compton, Paddy Davoren and Tommy Devlin - said they were seriously concerned at information in the media concerning workers in the company.
The worker directors acknowledged that in any dispute, both union and management set out their position as strongly as possible, but said that individual workers should be left out of the row.
They said that the allegations relating to up to 30 incidents were not proven, and it was neither legitimate nor fair to have them circulating in the public domain.
They added that unproven statements attacking workers served no end except to harden attitudes further and make a resolution of the dispute more difficult.
They also said that in the 21 years of the company's existence, this was only the second time worker directors had felt the need to comment publicly on the affairs of the company.
