The family of murdered Dublin man Joseph Rafferty, who was shot dead in west Dublin by an alleged IRA gunman, has met the Independent Monitoring Commission.

Three members of Mr Rafferty's family, along with Fianna Fáil councillor Gary Keegan, met three members of the commission at its offices in Dublin.

Speaking afterwards, Mr Keegan said the meeting went well and that the family had welcomed the opportunity to meet the IMC and to have an open and frank discussion.

Mr Keegan said the family went through the detail surrounding Joseph's death and had briefed the commission on intimidation of the family since Joseph died.

He said the IMC led them to believe that it had information from other quarters about Joseph's death, but he said the commission would not go into details.

Mr Rafferty's sister, Esther, said the meeting had gone very well. She said the family's campaign for justice had not lost any momentum and she pledged to keep going until the murderer was put behind bars.

Meanwhile, the IMC has handed over a new report on paramilitary activity in Northern Ireland to the British and Irish governments.

The latest dossier is the first since the IRA declared an end to its violence in July.

The governments will now study the IMC's latest assessment before publishing the findings within weeks.
