Half of the older people questioned for a new study say they could not afford to support themselves or their partner in a nursing home.

The research also found that an overwhelming majority would not like to enter residential care even if they could afford to do so.

73% said they were totally against the idea even if it was financially possible.

The study was carried out by Emergency Response, the monitoring and support organisation for older people living alone.
